Training

draping 015 It’s not easy to find expert help to learn fashion design – the work seems effortless on “Project Runway”, the reality is that it takes hours of practice, guidance, and expert support to learn clothing.

With private classes in Leo’s studio, you will learn all the critical aspects of fashion design.

  1. Fabrics – learning the hand of a fabric, quality, different types and characteristics for sewing;
  2. Draping – understanding how to position and pin fabric on a dress form to develop the structure of a garment design;
  3. Pattern-making – taking the draped design, and translating it into a flat pattern to be used for final garment construction;
  4. Cutting –  the ins and outs of cutting, learning fabric grain and weave, and how they interact physically for the garment;
  5. Sewing – learning to sew by hand, by machine, and industrial machine, to construct the three-dimensional garment;
  6. Fitting – adjustments to the garment required for tailoring a perfect form and fit

Two hours a week for ten weeks will prepare you for simpler clothing projects, from blouses and shirts to simple dresses and pants. With more advanced training comes your ability to create more highly structured clothing – jackets, bustiers, strapless.
